AHORA ESPAñOL (Spanish Camp)

Ahora Español is an immersion camp for children ages 5-8 that builds confidence for communication in the Spanish language and integrates technology to immerse students in authentic language and culture. This camp will be held for two sessions, each two weeks in length, from July 7 – August 1 and will incorporate various themes such as Cuentos Infantiles (Fairytales), Los Piratas (Geography tour with a pirate theme), El Circo (Circus), and Hispanoamericana (Celebration of Hispanic heritage).

Ahora Español is designed by an experienced linguistic teacher who will lead students through controlled, transitional, and open-ended activities to assure development of communication skills and boost student confidence and retention. From a wide variety of games originated in Spanish-speaking countries to a thematic play, the campers will build vocabulary for success from recognition to production. Beginning with a fairy tale theme week Cuentos Infantiles, this Spanish camp will create “Spanish only” situations early on, which will keep students involved in conversation and allow them many opportunities to practice pronunciation. The program progresses academically, gradually incorporating geography and Hispanic culture during the Fiesta Hispanoamericana week. Campers will be encouraged to experience and appreciate different cultures as they recreate their typical attires, learn songs, cook, and sample food from Latin American countries.

Each day’s schedule will incorporate arts and crafts, games, music and theater all in Spanish in order to build confidence, motivate and enhance language skills. Older students will develop writing skills as well. Campers will be grouped according to age and language skills from novice to advanced.
